Becoming Your Own Cheerleader

It’s human nature to seek validation, to crave for words of appreciation that make us feel seen and heard. When someone compliments us, it lights us up instantly, but have you ever noticed how it feels when the praise comes not from someone else, but from  yourself. If you look into the mirror and say to yourself, “I look pretty today” that might not hit  as deeply  as when a stranger compliments you. Why is that so? 

Because somewhere along the way we have learned to doubt our own validation. We trust others words more than we trust ourselves. We often forget that the love, appreciation and encouragement that we are seeking from others can come from within. Imagine if we could genuinely tell ourselves, “I’m proud of you,” or “You did great today,” and truly mean it. That small shift — from waiting for approval to giving it to yourself — can change everything.

The truth is; you’re allowed to be your biggest fan. You don’t need someone else to clap for you before you celebrate yourself

How to incorporate self validation in your daily routine-

  1. Write down daily affirmations- start your mornings by writing something positive about yourself for eg, “I am proud of how I handled things yesterday” or “I’m going to do well in this meeting”

  2. Celebrate your progress and small wins – write it down whether it is about doing a particular task or taking out time for a solo date or expressing gratitude towards family

  3. Be a little kind and gentle towards yourself- Whenever you talk to yourself, Just keep this in mind- Would you be talking the same way if this was your friend? If the answer is no, then change your tone and try to be a little gentle.

  4. Reflect at night – Before bed, jot down three moments that made you feel good about yourself during the day

  5. Revisit the notes -  Whenever you’re feeling low during the day, go through the previous pages. You’ll see proof of how far you’ve come.

Self validation does not have to be big and a time-consuming ritual. It can easily fit into your daily routine.

Begin your day by jotting down the affirmations in your journal in order to set the tone of the day .Each page becomes a reminder that your validation matters the most — and that your words can lift you higher than anyone else’s.’
